A good relationship is not one that thrives as long it is always kept in happy, predictable, safe places. That is actually a very weak relationship. A good relationship is one that can withstand challenges and unhappy feeling, that can stand firm in fear and stress even if it’s not pretty. A good relationship won’t disconnect in the messy unpredictability of real world circumstances.

A Whole New World

But did I love the horse? I wanted to. I thought I did, and maybe I did in part, but not the way I have come to recently.
The Triple Crown
As for the endurance plans… I have come to a good place, and I’m certain there will be new mountains to climb next year, but it’s too far away to get wrapped up in that story yet… there are stories in between that need engagement first. Khaleesi is on a well deserved break for now with her herd.
The weight of a thought.
We were released with a couple other riders, and there were a couple just behind. This seemed set up well to help us motivate out into the long middle loop, and if we could just get past the magnetic thought field of base camp I knew she’d go along fine. Or so I thought… this did not look good at all…
Twisted.
This is not the dynamic I want in my barn. This is not the dynamic I want in my life. When I feel that frustration rising in the dark space of my heart it is now a warning signal: you have become twisted again. Stop. Regroup. Begin again and ask: how can I help?
I thought I understood…
If we cannot meet fear with fear… then the better choice is to meet fear with LOVE. Love in fact, must have boundaries because connection is worth protecting.
Strange Companions
A good horsewoman or man gets adept at seeing where the broken parts are, which system has the greatest weakness, and can find ways to help bring strength there, walking the horse toward ever more complete wholeness. Maybe along the way we can also find our own way to being more whole. Maybe we can find our way back to Kansas…
