Tom Moates

April 26-27, 2024; Alleghany Highlands, VA
Tom up to his antics with Wyoming

We welcome Tom Moates to the Virginia Highlands Route 220 Corridor every 6-8 weeks Spring through Fall. These incredibly fun and diverse “roving clinics” take place at different farms from Clifton Forge to Monterey, VA depending on who is on the list. If you’d like to join us we can usually find a farm to host you. The roving clinic format is 2-day with an overnight. Each participant gets a one-on-one slot each day and is invited to observe and learn from all the lessons along the route. Carpooling is encouraged and this group tends to be small and full of laughter. Contact Jaime for the next set of dates and for availability.

Tom is an award winning author with hundreds of articles published in Horse Magazines from Equus to Western Horseman, Ecclectic Horseman to America’s Horse and many others. He is an author with entertaining as well as enlightening books about his horsemanship journey following Harry Whitney’s work including A Horse’s Thought and most recently Considering Horsemanship

Mark Langley

July 4-7, 2024; Greenville, VA

All of us at Hope Horsemanship are pretty thrilled to be the host for Mark Langley‘s VA clinic on his 2024 USA Tour! Mark is a down-to-earth highly regarded horseman from Australia who is gathering a global following through his tours (previously Australia and Europe) interviews, podcasts, and online video library. The 4-day clinic will be held at Penmerryl Farm in Greenville, VA on July 4-7. Participation spots are limited to 10 total and are quickly filling up. As of now there are spaces available. Auditor spaces are available by the day or as a package. Contact Jaime for registration and details.

From Mark: I teach people how to train horses in a way that allows horses to have the room to search and make decisions for themselves so that when their horses are operating, they are focused on what they are doing and because that is their intention, they become naturally softer and more balanced. Too often, horses are trained to move away from energy/ stimulant when they should be going towards focus/ intention. Teaching people to become better leaders for their horses is also very important. When we take a horse away from their herd, or their comfortable environment, we have to replace that herd/ stability/ comfort and that comes from the quality of our leadership and the confidence that our horses put in us. If we can’t provide that quality leadership, then we can’t gain a horse’s soft focus and make it feel better when the environment is quite challenging. Leadership comes from being calm and centred and offering a horse clarity. So instead of teaching people to be leaders like an alpha horse or bossy; I like to teach them to be a place where their horse can feel safe and relax.

Each horse I’ve taken on through this journey has been an opportunity for me to learn.

Though endurance riding is her sport of choice, Jaime loves to explore what a well-rounded horse is capable of, and believes good horsemanship is for everyone. Her current competition horse, Khaleesi, was started by Jaime as an unhandled 4-year old in 2014 and the subject of the 9-year journey of an unstated filly to seasoned 100-mile horse as told in the blog green to 100. Khaleesi and Jaime completed their first single-day 100 mile race at one of the most challenging courses (the Old Dominion 100 aka Beast of the East) in the top 10 in June of 2023. Jaime loves the challenge bring an endurance competitor in long distances brought, demanding a horse be in powerful mental, physical and emotional fitness.

Jaime is available to consult with you and your horse to find better communication and understanding regardless of your discipline. Not a horse trainer, Jaime doesn’t take on horses but prefers to work with the horse and owner to see where things aren’t working to engage in a stronger partnership which will enhance any sport you take on. Located in Bath County, VA she will meet with clients in the Bath, Highland, Alleghany, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Augusta and Botetourt Counties of Virginia as well as Pocahontas WV. Contact Jaime to schedule a meeting or set up a clinic.
